A very useful feature in Office 2010 is the ability to recover files which you closed accidentally without saving or lost for other reasons. For the purpose of this article, I will use MS Word.

1. Assuming that you were writing in MS Word and suddenly you closed the file by mistake. In the snapshot below, I have written few words and closed the file without saving. (See note1)

2. To retrieve the unsaved file, open MS Office again and from File menu choose Info. Then under Manage Versions, choose Recover Unsaved Documents:

3. Once you click on Recover Unsaved Documents, a window will open to choose the file that you want to recover. I will choose Hello World:

4. Now I can see the file which I was working on and closed accidentally is recovered. An alter is also displayed indicating that this was a recovered file and ask you to save it:

Note: files are temporary saved after the period set in auto-save setting.
